Walk the caldera path
The path along the cliff edge is the best free thing to do in Fira — the whole caldera opens up in front of you, the volcano sitting in the middle of the water, the white houses tumbling down the cliff. Walk it slowly in either direction. Head north and it takes you toward Firostefani and Imerovigli; the views only get better.

Go down to the old port
Below Fira, 220 metres down the cliff, sits the old port. Take the cable car down, or walk the switchback path, and you're in a completely different Santorini — fishing boats, the water right there, the cliffs towering above. Most visitors only look at it from above. Go down. It's worth the trip for the view back up alone.
