Options Airport Port
Last updated: July 2026

Santorini has one airport and one port, and only around 35 taxis for the whole island. Sorting your transfer before you arrive is the difference between a smooth start and an hour in a queue. Here's what works from both, and what it costs.

Book Ahead

Book your transfer

Skip the taxi queue β€” book a private transfer or airport pickup in advance, driver waiting with your name.

Your Options

Four ways to reach your hotel

🚐 Private Transfer From €25 Β· Fixed price Booked ahead, driver waiting with your name. No queue, no haggling. Easiest option at night or with luggage. Book a transfer β†’
πŸš• Taxi €15–40 Β· On arrival Only around 35 taxis on the island. Expect a wait in peak season and agree the fare before you set off.
🚌 Public Bus ~€2 Β· Cheapest Stops at both the airport and the port. Runs via the main station in Fira, then a second bus to your village.
πŸš— Rental Car €30–70 per day Collect on arrival and stay mobile all trip. Parking in Fira and Oia is difficult in July and August. See car rental β†’
From the Airport

Santorini Airport (JTR)

The airport sits near Kamari on the east side, about 15 minutes from Fira. Taxis, buses and rental desks are all directly outside arrivals.

Typical taxi fares

Fira €20–25
Firostefani / Imerovigli €25–30
Oia €35–40
Kamari €10–15
Perissa €20–25
From the Port

Athinios Port

All ferries dock at Athinios, on the caldera cliff south of Fira. The road out is a steep switchback, and when several ferries land together it gets chaotic.

Typical taxi fares

Fira €25–30
Firostefani / Imerovigli €30–35
Oia €40–45
Kamari / Perissa €25–30
🚐
Local tip Ferries and flights arrive in clusters, so everyone hits the taxi rank at the same moment. If you arrive in the evening in July or August, pre-book β€” otherwise you can wait an hour with your bags.

Your Own Wheels

Rent a car

A transfer covers your arrival, but for beach days and exploring the villages, having your own wheels makes Santorini far easier. A car gives you the freedom to reach Perissa and Perivolos, the traditional villages like Pyrgos and Megalochori, and the quieter corners most people miss β€” all on your own schedule.

Book early, especially in summer. Cars get snapped up fast in peak season (July–September), so reserve ahead rather than hoping to sort it on arrival.
